The Gift of Life Institute designs, develops, and delivers engaging learning programs specific to the donation professional. Our offerings may be instructor-led, web-based, or a combination of each. Topics range from basic to high-level, with something for everyone. As your learning partner, we will work with you to design a learning curriculum that meets your organization's goals.
In addition to creating customized learning for your organization, we also host events on an annual basis that are open to donation professionals across the nation. Each program focuses on a topic that resonates with anyone working in the industry. Our model integrates lecture with highly engaging exercises designed to maximize learning. These real-life exercises provide a safe setting with an experienced "coach" who can guide the role-play interaction. We also incorporate "teach backs," "Five to Scribe" exercises, and other building-block activities into the agenda.
Typical topics for those sessions include:
- Level 1 Organ Communication and Consent/Authorization courses focus on the fundamental elements of approaching potential donor families.
- Level 2 Organ Communication and Consent/Authorization courses focus on the same principles and practices as the Level 1 courses, but are intended for more experienced staff members who would like to learn how to navigate more complex consent situations.
- Hospital Development courses are targeted toward OPO employees who are responsible for building effective partnerships with hospital staff that result in optimal and sustainable donation rates.
Themes vary from course to course. In keeping with our mission, our goal is to increase organ and tissue donation rates. We focus on skills with the greatest potential to increase donor numbers and ultimately decrease the waiting list.
Customized Onsite Learning Solutions
In addition to the programs offered to a national audience, we also provide the option of customizing one of our existing learning modules. If you chose this option, you then have the ability to tailor the content to be more specific to your organization's goals. The resulting high-impact program is delivered to your staff at your facility by our experienced faculty. Designated experts from your organization are engaged throughout the development process to ensure relevance to your audience. These events are typically one or one-and-a-half day sessions.
We also offer you the opportunity to develop long-term development plans. In this model, our faculty will deliver ongoing annual sessions - topics depending on the need of the organization.
Call Center Programs
Call Center programs, similar to Organ Communication and Consent courses, focus on family communication and consent utilizing the Dual AdvocacySM model. During the course, Gift of Life Institute experts recognize the unique challenges faced by Call Center staff and incorporate strategies for improved communication. Both Level 1 and Level 2 courses offered.
